This is the big question right now… How do you stay healthy while traveling?  And while I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice, I travel often and I wanted to share my tips and tricks for staying healthy.

  1. Above all else – Wash your hands and carry hand sanitizer.
  2. How to stay healthy while traveling, from a seasoned travel plannerDrink lots of water and for added benefits, add Vitamin Powders with Vitamin C to the water. I can tell you from experience that the fastest way to get sick on a trip is to get dehydrated.
  3. If you are traveling out of the country be sure to check beforehand on whether or not the water is safe to drink.
  4. Carry antibacterial wipes with you and I also carry On Guard or Thieves spray. I love natural cleaners and essential oils.
  5. When I am traveling out of the country I carry a big first aid kit. I travel with groups, my family and my team. I have used the first aid kit on each trip. On the last trip in July, one of the team members got bit on the foot by a bug or a scorpion, and I had the needed supplies to treat her foot while we were in Mexico.
  6. Exercise before going on a trip that requires a lot of walking. You want to be in shape before the trip. We book active adventure and Marathon travel, and the people attending these trips train before the vacation. Disney World is a trip you will walk a lot on and you want to be prepared to walk 3 plus miles a day before the trip.
  7. How to stay healthy while traveling, from a seasoned travel plannerEssential Oils – I am a big believer in healthy natural remedies and supplements. I carry a portable diffuser and basic oils with me on each trip. I don’t like stale smells and this is rare but if I get to a hotel room that smells musty I just get my oils started and the problem is solved.
  8. At this time I suggest wearing a mask and carrying a wide variety of masks with you. I keep a pack of 25 disposable masks with me while traveling. If you have a wide variety it makes wearing them easier.
  9. How to stay healthy while traveling, from a seasoned travel plannerSunscreen and more sunscreen. One of the most unhealthy things I have done while traveling was getting a bad sunburn. If you are going to be out in the sun, make sure you use sunscreen. You do not want a sunburn on the first day of the trip that affects the entire trip in a negative way.
  10. Rest – You want to make sure you are resting and staying on a good schedule so that your body feels good.
  11. Purchase (good) Travel insurance. This is a must and if you do not take any of the other tips offered, I hope that you follow this one. If you are traveling and have a health problem the last thing you want to worry about is the cost. We offer all our guests travel insurance and I highly suggest travel insurance.
  12. Check the weather before traveling so that you can carry the correct clothing if you are going to be out in the heat of 90 to 100. I suggest midday breaks. When I go to Disney World in the summer, a midday break is a must.
  13. Carry all daily or weekly meds with you in your carry on. If the airline loses your luggage you can replace clothes, but it’s often hard to replace meds quickly. CARRY THE MEDS in your carry on.
  14. If you have health problems, check with your doctor before traveling to ensure it’s safe.
  15.  In a Post Covid world, I suggest staying at safety approved resorts. These resorts have created health and safety protocols that are approved by governments or safety boards.
  16. When traveling outside the USA, I do not suggest eating at roadside stands. My husband learned the hard way not to do this. Don’t be my husband LOL.
  17. Wear shoes that you have broken in and always travel with more than one pair of shoes. I wore a brand new pair of shoes on a trip to Alaska and I can tell you that was a mistake. I got a big blister and then I had only packed one pair of tennis shoes and dress shoes. I spent part of my morning in Juneau, Alaska finding a shoe store and buying flip-flops. Don’t be me LOL.
  18. If you have trouble sleeping if there is noise around you, either carry a white noise machine or add an white noise app to your phone that will mask any noise in the halls or the room beside you.
  19. This one will sound crazy, but I have a certain pillow I sleep with to support my neck. I carry this pillow when traveling so that I get good sleep. Sleep, water, and exercise are key to staying healthy while traveling.
  20. Carry bug spray. You will thank me later if you are going to be outdoors a lot during your trip.

Our team attends training with our Travel Supplier Partners on safety standards and current safety protocols in place. We would love to put this training and knowledge to work on your next trip.
