Our team at Embrace the Journey Travel loves Alaska, and many of the Alaskan cruises we plan leave from the Port of Seattle.

Seattle is an incredible port city, and I will share some of the hotels and activities that I love in Seattle.

Let’s start with some of our favorite things we like to do:

Exploring Pike Place Market: Seattle’s Heartbeat:

Pike Place Market is more than just a market—it’s a breathing piece of Seattle’s history and culture. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Seattleite, this bustling marketplace never fails to impress. From fresh seafood and local produce to quirky shops and world-famous street performers, Pike Place is a must-visit destination that captures the city’s essence.

It’s free to visit, and if you choose to, you can buy amazing foods, flowers, and handmade goods. We love eating at Pike’s Place and watching the fish being thrown.

It’s also home to the first Starbucks. If you decide to visit, we suggest you get in line early because the line can be long to enter.

I highly suggest visiting Pike’s Place at least once.

Visit the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass!

  • Why it’s a must: No trip to Seattle is complete without seeing the iconic Space Needle. Standing 605 feet tall, it offers stunning 360-degree views of the city, Puget Sound, and Mount Rainier.
  • Added bonus: Right next door is Chihuly Garden and Glass, a mesmerizing exhibit of glass art by Dale Chihuly. The vibrant installations in both indoor galleries and outdoor gardens perfectly complement the panoramic views from the Space Needle.

Walk Through Discovery Park

  • Why it’s a must: If you’re a nature lover, Discovery Park is Seattle’s largest green space and offers miles of trails, scenic views, beaches, and meadows. It’s a great place for a peaceful hike or a relaxing day outdoors without leaving the city.
  • Highlights: Enjoy the views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, visit the historic West Point Lighthouse, or explore the lush forests and wetlands.

Wings Over Washington

-is a thrilling and immersive flight simulation experience located at Pier 57 on Seattle’s waterfront. The attraction offers visitors the sensation of flying over some of Washington State’s most iconic landmarks, including its lush forests, majestic mountains, and vibrant cities—all from the comfort of a state-of-the-art theater.

Book Tickets in Advance: Although it’s a popular attraction, Wings Over Washington often experiences heavy foot traffic, especially during tourist season. To avoid long wait times, it’s a good idea to buy tickets in advance or plan to go during off-peak hours.

Hotels

Seattle has one of my favorite hotels!

The Edgewater – is one of Seattle’s most iconic and luxurious hotels, offering stunning views and an unforgettable waterfront experience. Located at 2411 Alaskan Way, right on the Seattle waterfront, The Edgewater combines classic charm with modern elegance and is a perfect location for both business and leisure travelers.

Pan Pacific Seattle is a sophisticated and contemporary hotel located in the heart of downtown Seattle, offering guests a luxurious yet relaxed atmosphere with impeccable service and modern amenities. Known for its sleek design, spacious rooms, and excellent location, the hotel provides a perfect base for business and leisure travelers.
