Universal Studios is synonymous with blockbuster movies, incredible attractions, and unforgettable experiences. I recently visited with my now 16 year old son Mason. He had the best time, but theme park visits have changed dramatically from what they were when he was younger.
Now he enjoys as many thrill rides as we can fit into one day, and while there’s something for everyone at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers will find plenty to satisfy their cravings for excitement.
The park offers an array of pulse-pounding rides that will leave you screaming for more. Let’s dive into some of Mason’s top thrill rides.
VelociCoaster: A Dino-Thrill Like No Other
The VelociCoaster is a roller coaster experience that’s unlike any other. Located in the Jurassic Park section of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, this attraction puts you right in the heart of the action from the Jurassic Park films.
Here’s why it is his number one choice! The VelociCoaster reaches speeds of up to 70 mph and soars to heights of 155 feet. It also features a one-of-a-kind element known as the “Top Hat,” which sends riders soaring through a 360-degree barrel roll. This element is his favorite.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure: A Wizarding World Gem
Step into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and experience Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, a ride that captures the magic of J.K. Rowling’s beloved series.
Mason’s favorite part of the attraction was choosing team motorbike vs team sidecar. It provides for a different experience with both. He also loved the devil’s snare drop that surprises riders.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
Enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando and hop on this thrilling 4D indoor roller coaster. With a combination of high-speed twists, turns, and immersive 3D effects, this ride transports you into the heart of a heist at Gringotts Bank.
This is a must ride for ALL Harry Potter fans. Not only is the ride amazing but the details put into the que are unbelievable.
Revenge of the Mummy
Step into the world of ancient Egypt and prepare for a heart-pounding adventure on Revenge of the Mummy. This indoor roller coaster combines high-speed twists and turns with immersive storytelling, making it a thrilling experience from start to finish.
The surprise elements and unexpected drops will keep you on the edge of your seat. We watched the movie in the room the night before so it made the ride even better.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
It is one of Universal Studios’ most iconic roller coasters, the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit offers a unique experience. Not only can you choose your own soundtrack for the ride, but you’ll also experience a breathtaking 17-story vertical drop and multiple inversions. This was our first thrill ride of the day and it did not disappoint.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong
This multi-sensory dark ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure takes you on an expedition to the mysterious Skull Island. You’ll encounter gigantic creatures, epic battles, and jaw-dropping animatronics.
The 3D effects and realistic sets make it a thrilling adventure. Mason loves this ride; he would ride it again and again. It is fun and entertaining throughout.
The Incredible Hulk Coaster
The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure is a true adrenaline rush. From the moment the roller coaster accelerates to an incredible speed, you’ll be gripping the handlebars for dear life.
With seven inversions and a heart-pounding launch, this ride is a favorite among coaster enthusiasts. This was sadly the last ride we rode, and it was as much fun as the first.
Jurassic Park River Adventure
As you embark on what seems to be a peaceful river journey through a dinosaur-filled jungle, things take a terrifying turn when the dinos have gotten out of the containment area. You’re on guard making sure your boat is not attacked by dinosaurs. You just escape the T-rex thanks to a sudden drop at the end of the ride that will get both your heart pumping and you wet!
Forbidden Journey – Hogwarts Castle
Take a Forbidden Journey into the world of Harry Potter. You soar through iconic scenes, encounter mythical creatures, and come face-to-face with your favorite characters and maybe some not so favorite characters.
Doctor Doom’s Fearfall
This was a ride we had never ridden before and it was great fun. For your Marvel super fans and thrill seekers it combines both. Strap into your seat and prepare for an exhilarating launch that propels you skyward at breathtaking speeds, only to send you plummeting back down towards Earth.
With adrenaline-pumping drops and weightless sensations, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall offers an electrifying thrill that will leave you screaming for more.
Universal Studios is a paradise for thrill-seekers, so many options for fun and adrenaline rush. The park has an amazing combination of high-speed coasters, immersive 3D simulations, or themed dark rides, Universal Studios will get your heart racing.
It is great for your teens who have decided they want more thrill rides in their vacation. Mason and I had a great time riding all these rides and more. Yes, I rode them all with him and even for this 50-year-old woman they were so much fun!!
